Serve in Worship
Whether you feel called to serve up front or behind the scenes, weekly or intermittently throughout the year, there are many opportunities to use your gifts and help others connect with God. By being involved in the worship service, you will enrich your own life as well as helping others get the most out of the worship experience. Ways to Become Part of Worship at St. Paul’s
- Acolyte—Following the tradition of the early church, many of our youth and adults serve the clergy and congregation during worship services. Acolytes are included in a variety of functions including the lighting of candles, and the processions in and out of the church, as well as serving at the altar. This opportunity for ministry is open to youth, grade five and up. If interested in serving as an acolyte click here.
- Altar Guild—This team enhances the spiritual life of St. Paul’s through attention to the environment in which we worship. Its work celebrates the beauty of holiness and its relationship with God in Jesus Christ is deepened by what guild members do. They set up the sanctuary for all services conducted during the year—three Sunday services, baptisms, weddings, funerals, confirmation, and special services. - Choir—The St. Paul’s Choir sings during the 10:00 a.m. services on Sunday mornings and for seasonal services throughout the liturgical year. They also participate in the annual Festival of Lessons and Carols in December. Although the ability to read music is helpful, it is not necessary. - Choristers—The St. Paul’s Chorister program instructs children in singing and fosters their love of classical choral music. The Junior Choristers are students in grades 2 through 5. These two choirs sing at the 10:00 a.m. worship service and other special services. To learn more about getting involved with the choristers click here.
- Flower Guild & Junior Flower Guild—This team prepares flowers for the altar, and around the church interior, for Sunday services, weddings, funerals, and various receptions and special events as requested. They work with God’s gifts of flowers and talent to beautify His House; specifically on the altar, to draw the worshippers’ eyes up to the cross. Volunteers need not have floral-arranging experience. The Junior Flower Guild welcomes children in grade 2 and above.
- Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers—A lector is a layperson who reads aloud the prescribed Scripture or leads the prayers of the people. Eucharistic ministers (also known as Chalice Bearers) assist the celebrant in the distribution of the sacrament. Lectors and Eucharistic ministers serve during weekly worship as well as for special services such as Christmas Eve.
- Ushers—This group welcomes people at the entrance to the nave, hands out the church program, collects the offering, and assists wherever needed to promote and encourage an atmosphere of reverence and order before, during and after services.
