Advent & Christmas

Advent and the Arts. O Come, O Come… | Sundays during Advent: Nov. 30-Dec. 21 | 9:00 a.m. | Parish Hall

“The whole purpose of Advent is to be for a moment fully and consciously Before Christ.”
Malcolm Guite

Advent invites us to enter into a world still longing for salvation. We are to pause and consider what is of ultimate significance for us, our world, and the times in which we live. As we do so, we are left crying out the ancient prayer of the Church: “Veni,” that is, “Come!” The year we explore the O Antiphons, which are prayers drawn from images in the Old Testament. In these verses, Christ is present, but he is hidden, waiting to be revealed in the Incarnation. They are most familiar to us in the 7th century hymn, O come, O come Emmanuel.

Guest speakers Lauren Gamble, Steve Severn, and Sean Vogt lead our sessions through visual arts, poetry, and music.
