Is cleanliness really next to godliness? Ritual purity was a defining feature of first century Judaism, and the Pharisees saw themselves as the sole custodians of God’s revelation. However, we see how human tradition gets twisted into a betrayal of God’s commandments, and Jesus challenges them to consider the heart of the matter.
