Jesus is Lord. Caesar is not.
Christmas Eve: By setting the story of Jesus’ birth in the midst of the reign of Augustus Caesar, Luke is making a profound theological statement, a seditiously bold claim. Jesus is Lord, and Caesar is not. All the power in the world can neither generate nor prevent the salvation of the world in Jesus Christ. The power of salvation comes to the world from outside of the world.
