Being set free from anger
The genius of Jesus’ ethical teachings, his teachings about the judgment we rightly deserve, is that they circle us back directly to the Beatitudes, the Blessings, where the Sermon on the Mount begins. Blessed are you. Blessed are you when you are poor in spirit, for yours is the kingdom of heaven. You have heard it said, “You shall not murder.” But I say to you that if you are angry with a brother or sister, you will be liable to judgment. Matthew 5.21-22
